I was very sad to hear of uncle Roland ' s passing I will always remember him as the handsome young uncle in the sailor suit who was too much fun to be related to my parents! At least that's what the five year old me believed. And I remember how brave I thought he was when he broke his leg skiing out West (Colorado I think and it was, ski jumping I think! ) and he rode home in the car with his friends to see a doctor in NH, not there. It must have hurt so much but he just laughed it off.
And I remember his dating aunt Si. I thought she was so beautiful....I was a bit of a pest because I was so smitten with this glamorous young couple in love. At one family gathering for dinner, I recall being shooed away from the living room where the newly engaged were trying to have some "alone time". Anyway, that's how I'll always see Roland in my mind. ..kind, handsome, courageous,in love with Simone, best, most patient uncle imaginable to a pesky five year old.
