Rosa M. Johnson

January 19, 1937 - August 29, 2020

The sun rose for Rosa Mae Johnson on January 19, 1937 and she completed her life’s journey on August 29, 2020.

Rosa was born in Chase City, VA to Junious and Gilla Mae Burton.  The oldest of five siblings, she attended West End High School and became a member of Concord Baptist Church at a very early age.

After moving to New York, she married Moses Johnson Sr. to which three children were born.  She was a dedicated and revered employee of Honey Fashions, Ltd.

Upon retiring to Port Richey, FL in 1990, her love for helping people found her returning to school to become a CNA.  She took so much pride in being able to help those that could not help themselves.  She treated every patient with the utmost compassion and care.

She was member of New Zion Baptist Church in Clearwater, FL where she served as a Deaconess.

She was an active member of the Red Hat Society.  She found so much enjoyment getting dressed up in her red and purple top with a regal red hat.  She enjoyed going out with her movie group, which meant chicken strips afterwards.

Sundays meant it was time for an all day marathon of her girls Rose, Blanche, Dorothy and her favorite Sophia. She became an avid sports fan watching everything from basketball to tennis.

Music was a big part of her enjoyment. She took organ lessons and was always practicing her favorite carols. You would rarely find her without the headphones and cassette player dancing to old Motown, Ben E King or the Chi-Lites.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories, Son, Moses Jr.; Daughters Lisa Johnson and Sherry Johnson; Grandson, Michael Johnson; Sisters, Lenora Womack of Queens, NY, Kathie Jones of Chase City, VA; Brother, Charles Burton of Tacoma, WA, and a host of relatives and friends.
