Gifts & Memorial Donations

Paul Gregory Staubs, age 41 of Wesley Chapel, Florida passed away Monday, June 24, 2019.  He was born October 4, 1977 to Greg Staubs and Kathy Lamb. He is survived by his father, Greg, mother Kathy, sister, Amy Staubs (Jon), brothers – Marcus Staubs, Tyler Lamb (Alicia), and Zachary Lamb, and grandmother, Mary Loper always called by Paul “Gran Loper”.  Also surviving are his Aunt Mary Beth Forehand (John), Uncle Ron Lesch, Uncle Jeff Staubs (Becky), and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Paul completed his education with a Master’s Degree in Management having worked as an Insurance Adjuster for many years. He had a passion for many things, but the ones that stand out include history, genealogy, Katherine Hepburn and cats (in no particular order).  Getting to tour the Smithsonian Museums as an adult when he attended the Inauguration of George W. Bush was a highlight he often reminisced about. His genealogy work took him several years to complete. The thrill he got when he had an unexpected family find was enormous and shared. The cartoon figure Garfield was his “spirit totem” as Marcus and Amy put it. This was truly reflective of his love of cats.  As such, he was a supporter of Big Cat Rescue in Tampa.  In the last ten years, however, Paul’s health struggles became progressively more difficult due to his failing kidneys from polycystic kidney disease.  Despite his challenges; his wicked, unfiltered sense of humor still came out at times. And now, he is in no more pain struggling through each day wondering when the next hospitalization will come.  A Memorial Service will be held at Michels & Lundquist Funeral Home, 5228 Trouble Creek Road, New Port Richey, FL 34652 on July 5th with visitation from 2-3pm and service starting at 3pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Big Cat Rescue 12802 Easy Street, Tampa, FL 33625 (bigcatrescue.org/donate) or PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) Foundation at pkdcure.org/make-a-donation.

We love Paul. He is part of our family. He always made sure I hade Godiva and lots and lots of beautiful flowers. Starbucks, pumpkin bread and big hugs were always included in our visits. We laughed, cried and loved each other. He is forever in our hearts!

I’m so sad to hear of Paul’s passing. He and I worked together at USAA, but became close friends because of Big Cat Rescue. Paul came on several private tours and expressed deep love for the cats who call BCR home. He was very generous. I’ll miss you.
