John Angus McCormick (AKA: “Mack” “Jake”) passed away peacefully on
Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2019 at Mease Countryside Hospital, Clearwater,
FL. He was 101 years old. John was born to Mary Christina (Eamon) and Hector
Roderick McCormick on February 19, 1918 in Copper Cliff, Ontario, Canada.
John Came to The United States with his family in the 1930’s settling in Pontiac,
Michigan. He attended Pontiac Central High School where he met Dorothy (Dot)
his future wife. He became a U.S. Citizen and in 1942 joined United States Navy
and was honorably discharged in 1945 as Ensign (A1) L, USNR. He married the
Love of his life, Dorothy Gail Heath on April 16, 1945 at St. Michael’s Church,
Pontiac, MI. They remained married for just over 69 years until Dot’s death July
17, 2014.John worked in the Pontiac area as a phone installer and lineman for
Michigan Bell Telephone Co. Then he, his mother and brothers formed
“McCormick Electric” on Baldwin Ave. as electrical contractors. His mother was
office manager and he and his brothers were electricians. He continued until
December 1960 when he moved his family to L’Anse located in the Upper
Peninsula of Michigan. He lived in the area until he and Dot retired to New Port
Richey, FL in the early 1980’s. During his life in L’Anse he worked for Celotex and
his good friend, Bernie Penokie. John also worked for a short time as State
Electrical Inspector in the Upper Peninsula in the late 1960’s. John’s survivors
include: Children, Christine Snyder, John McCormick and Jane Teague (Billy).
Grandchildren, Maryfaith Snyder, Sarah Craddock (Les) and Christian Zupke (Paul).
Great Grandchildren, Samantha Craddock and Zachary Zupke. Nieces and
Nephews, Catherine Whitehead, Diane Rodriguez (Dave), Denise McCormick,
Patricia Gloss, Ronald McCormick and Mary Margaret Scodallero (Gary). Also
Good Family Friends, Carolyn Eisner and Leo Wagner.
Preceding John in death was his Beloved Wife, Dorothy Gail (Heath). His siblings,
Andrew (Jule), Neil (Pauline), George (Leona), Gordon (Ruth) and Catherine who
died at 6 years old in Pontiac. Nephews, Michael McCormick, Terrance McCormick
and Thomas Whitehead. Funeral arrangements are provided by Michels &
Lundquest Funeral Home of New Port Richey, FL. John’s ashes will join Dot’s at
Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell on February 19, 2020 which would have
been his 102th Birthday. As per John’s wishes there will be no funeral or services.
His Family would like to thank the staff at Westchester Gardens John’s last home,
Mease Countryside Hospital and Suncoast Hospice all of Clearwater, FL.
