Waltraud M. Deutsch, 82, of New Port Richey, FL passed away May 29, 2017. She was born in Birkenfeld, Germany on April 6, 1935 to Wilhelm Kratz and Maria Schebler. She came to America in 1957. She lived in New York for many years before making her way to Florida in 1989 with her husband John from Bayshore, Long Island. Waltraud would work many jobs in her life, from offices to bakeries, but the one that made the most impact was her job as a school bus driver. Her passengers just loved “Miss Wally.”
Waltraud was a woman who loved to be social. She was a member of “Tops” and of “The Lunch Bunch”, a group of ladies from the Mill Pond community who would get together for lunch once a month. She was very active in her community, always around for the clubhouse activities, bringing food to the sick or unable, and volunteering at the local elementary school. Waltraud was always generous with her time and resources. She collected thousands of shells for wreaths she made and would give them away to anyone that wanted one. She always looked after others before herself, often saying, “Don’t worry about me.” She was a woman of faith. She attended Our Lady of Lourdes in West Islip, and was a member of their choir with two of her children. In Florida, she attends St. Thomas Aquinas.
Waltraud is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, John; her sons, Christopher (Theresa) and Raymond (Patty); her daughters, Barbara Jenner (Dayton) and Monica Adkins (Paul); her brother, Willi Kratz; and 11 grandchildren.
