NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. ? Charlotte M. Strickland passed away Thursday, May 29, 2014. She was born Charlotte Matilda Hicking on March 16, 1925, in Bolton, Conn. Her parents were Charles and Sarah Hicking. Charlotte was the sixth of 17 children. She was married in 1947 to the love of her life, Clarence (Clem) L. Strickland. They were married for 47 years before his passing in 1994.

Charlotte, also known as Char, loved helping out family and friends and enjoyed making afghans and cooking for everyone she knew. She lived in Connecticut from 1925 to 1973. She then moved to Unity and lived there until 1990. She had resided in New Port Richey, Fla., for the last 24 years.

Charlotte was a loving mother to her only son, Harold (Hal) Roy. She was a member of the St. Mark?s Presbyterian Church in New Port Richey. Charlotte was also was a very big fan of and loved making sweets for Cindy and the gals at Ben?s School of Hairdressing in New Port Richey, where she had been a customer since 1991.

She is survived by her son, Harold and her daughter-in-law, Denise (whom she called Mickey), both of Newport; her granddaughter, Heather Lee Fowler; her two great-grandchildren, Avery Strickland and Jenna Fowler of Ivoryton, Conn.; her cousin, Pat La Barron of Willimantic, Conn., whom she thought the world of; her special friends, Annie and Sam Campis of Hudson, Fla.; Kevin and Dodi Carr of Watsonville, Calif.; the Cornell brothers; Ben, Bob, Butch, Del and Willie, all of Connecticut; James and Pierrette Dean of Coventry, Conn.; Rodney Dunham of Newport; Tori McDonald of Amsden, Conn.; Anita Shaw of Hudson, Fla.; Doris Smith of Sunapee; Steve Soucy of Unity; Linda, Jennifer and Brandon Williams of New Port Richey, Fla.; and last but not least, Grayson, her favorite cat from Newport.

Friends and family whom she loved that predeceased her include her husband Clarence; her sisters, Dottie, Helen and Martha; her cousins Honey and Clifford Griswold; her friends Bennie, Craig and Pauline Cornell; Sissy De Santo, Tammy Heino, Joan Madore, Robert Potter, Tilly Raiche, Darrell Williams and last but not least, her favorite dog, Susie the Shih-Tzu.

Services were held Tuesday, June 3, in New Port Richey, Fla. She then was laid to rest with husband, Clem. If you would like to send your condolences: Mr. Harold Strickland, 7316 Orange Blossom Avenue New Port Richey, FL 34668.
